Use this form if you would like to have the FSA handle the processing of
your horse's DNA sample.

The question we get the most often
is "how do I register my horse?",
so we have made this simple guide:
Does your horse have at least one parent who is at least 50% Friesian, and can you prove it?
YES. Your horse is eligible for registration NO. Your horse is not eligible for registration.
You will need a BREEDER'S CERTIFICATE. (The link to print this form is at the top of this page.)
Are you the owner of your horse's sire?
YES. You will sign the Breeder's Certificate as the "sire owner". NO. You will need to have the sire owner sign a Breeder's Certificate for you.
Are you the breeder of your horse (did you own your horse's dam at the time of breeding)?
YES. You will sign the Breeder's Certificate as the "breeder / mare owner". NO. You will need to have the breeder (whoever owned your horse's dam at the time of breeding) sign a Breeder's Certificate for you.

Is at least one of your horse's parents at least 50% Friesian?
YES, the sire. You must submit a copy of the sire's registration papers. YES, the dam. You must submit a copy of the dam's registration papers. NO. Your horse is not eligible for registration.
Is your horse's sire registered?
YES. Submit a copy of the sire's registration papers. NO. Your horse may still be eligible for a Certificate of Pedigree if the dam is at least 50% Friesian.
Is your horse's dam registered?
YES. Submit a copy of the dam's registration papers. NO. Your horse may still be eligible for a Certificate of Pedigree if the sire is at least 50% Friesian.
All mares, stallions, fillies, and un-gelded colts registered in the USA must have a DNA marker report from UC Davis on file with the FSA. (DNA testing is also recommended for geldings, but is not mandatory.)
Has your horse been DNA tested by UC Davis?
YES. Send us a copy of the DNA marker report and parentage verification. NO. You can have your horse DNA tested thru us. The link to print the form is at the top of this page, and instructions are on the form.
You must submit at least two photographs of your horse, showing the markings.
Payment must be included, payable to "Friesian Sporthorse Association".
Are you registering a horse outside of the United States?
YES. You may submit your paperwork and payment electronically (via email) and
use the paypal buttons on this page for payment.
NO. You may submit your paperwork and payment electronically (via email)
but you will still have to submit your DNA sample using traditional mail
(unless you are registering a gelding, in which case DNA testing is
Has your horse already fulfilled the requirements for one of the Elite Books or Mare Predicates?
YES. Please submit copies of paperwork for verification. (This can be a copy of a score sheet (showing the horse's name, the date and name of the competition or inspection, and the judge's name and signature, or it can be a copy of an official record of the score (for example, a screen shot of show results from the USDF website.) NO. No problem, these are optional. They can be earned at any time (or never.)
